Fire Requirements for Foam Plastic Insulation and WRBs in Exterior WallsSponsored by Sto Corp Register Now

Tuesday, July 31, 2012; 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Eastern
Cost: FREE

Please submit requests for AIA certification by August 9, 2012. Building codes are established to provide life safety to the building occupants, and fire protection is a significant aspect of the codes. Building codes have requirements for water-resistive barriers, air barriers and continuous insulation. NFPA 285 is one of the most recognized fire tests for designers to consider for non-combustible construction which is typically steel frame, concrete, or masonry, but there are several others that are applicable as well.

Participants of this one-hour webinar are eligible for one AIA CES LU/HSW/SD credit. Learning objectives: 1) Architects and specifiers are to gain an understanding of code requirements for foam plastic used in exterior walls so that they can properly specify for fire safety and compliance. 2) Learn the history of the NFPA 285 Fire test, and understand the NFPA 285 and other fire test requirements, to understand how these contribute to, and adequately meet these requirements for, the safety of exterior walls containing foam plastic. 3) Gain an understanding of water-resistive barriers (WRBs) and the code requirements for these, to specify for building envelope protection and fire safety. 4) To understand the use of NFPA 285, including engineering analysis, applicability depending on materials and configuration, and how to appropriately use NFPA 285 in evaluating and specifying wall systems for code compliance ensuring fire safety.
