A new eight-story parking garage in Santa Monica, CA, will soon showcase a public art installation sure to capture the hearts of coatings lovers everywhere.
Commissioned by the City of Santa Monica, artist Mike Ross will build a “monumental” sculpture on the façade of the garage, officially known as Parking Structure 6. The Santa Monica Arts Commission and its Public Art Commission selected and approved his design in May.

| Artist Mike Ross will give this Santa Monica parking garage a slathering of brightly-colored paint. |
“The sculpture is derived from pouring viscous fluids over a model of the building’s grid-like structure, resulting in a form that reacts to the building, even as it changes appearance,” according to the artist’s description of the project on his website.
Though it doesn’t have a name yet, the giant rainbow-colored paint-drip piece is set to be installed in 2013, with a planned composition of fiberglass and steel.
What does a giant paint drip sculpture run these days? $125K.
