Cytec Industries Inc. (Woodland Park, N.J.) introduced a UV-curable polyurethane dispersion for wood coatings and a polyester acrylate resin for UV-cure field-applied floor coatings.
The UCECOAT® 7733 UV-cure polyurethane dispersion was developed to meet demand for Xi-free (non-irritant) UV-cure resins for white-pigmented topcoats for wood applications, the company says. The dispersion also can be used for wood sealers, basecoats for field-applied applications, and for resilient flooring. Other recommended uses include clearcoats on PVC and basecoats for in-situ applications.
The product is reported to provide a high degree of hardness and scratch resistance, and resistance to stains and solvents.
The EBECRYL® 893 polyester acrylate resin is formulated for use in UV-cure, field-applied coatings for concrete and VCT (vinyl composition tile) flooring. Coatings based on the resin are reported to offer a balance of properties, including cure speed, adhesion, hardness, scratch resistance, chemical and solvent resistance, and high gloss. The resin is low in viscosity, allowing latitude in formulating, and provides resistance to yellowing.
Stefan Smeets, the company’s global marketing manager, UV/EB Curable Resins and Additives, said UV-cure coatings offer fully developed performance properties immediately after cure, allowing fast return to service. Other attributes include strong stain resistance and low maintenance costs, he said.
