The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) awarded its Distinguished Service Award to Paul Bertram Jr., director, environment and sustainability at Kingspan Insulated Panels, during the recent CONSTRUCT 2010 and 54th CSI Annual Convention in Philadelphia.
Bertram also will join CSI’s national board as president-elect on July 1.
The Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to an individual who has rendered distinguished service in the advancement of CSI’s mission or in its administration. The award represents one of the highest forms of CSI recognition of an individual. Nominations for the award must be made by a CSI officer or director, a chapter or region, a CSI standing committee, or five voting CSI members.
“I am honored to receive this prestigious award,” Bertram said. “During the 19 years I have been affiliated with CSI, I have been impressed by the organization’s efforts to improve the communication of construction information while advancing quality, certification, and educational programs. I’m inspired by the diverse group of professionals that CSI attracts and the important contributions they make to our industry.”
Bertram directs green initiatives at Kingspan, a manufacturer of insulated metal panels based in Deland, Fla. He figured prominently in a 2007 report published in the Journal of Architectural Coatings (JAC), “Finding the way to LCA,” focusing on the concept of lifecycle assessment of building materials. He also played a key role in the development of CSI’s GreenFormat, a primary focus of the JAC report (see Special Report: Green coatings, www.jacjournal.com, April-May 2007, page 18).
Also during CONSTRUCT 2010 and the CSI convention, the institute announced that Dennis J. Hall, managing principal of Hall Architects Inc. and chairman of HALL Building Information Group LLC, will become CSI president on July 1.
Hall joined CSI in 1984 and has held a number of leadership positions at the organization’s local, regional, and national levels. He is the current chairman of the Project Resource Manual Update Task Team, is the CSI forum moderator for Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Construction Documents, and a member of the UniFormat Task Team. Engineering News-Record named Hall one of its “Top 25 Newsmakers of 2005” for his leadership in updating CSI’s MasterFormat™. He is the author or co-author of several books in the fields of architecture and construction specifications.
