The Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) is seeking public and member comment on the organization’s latest proposed standard P19-09: “Definition and Application of Decorative Finishes.” The purpose of the standard is to define the field of decorative finishing, PDCA says.
The 45-day comment period was to have closed March 20, but PDCA has extended the period until April 10. After that, PDCA will consider the standard for adoption.
Comments may be submitted by mail, email, or fax to: Elise McDermott, Standards Committee Staff Liaison, PDCA, 1801 Park 270 Dr., Suite 220, St. Louis, MO 63146. Email emcdermott@pdca.org or fax 314-514-9417.

I think that setting a standard for decorative painting would add more respect to the field of decorative painters. I have been invoLved with decorative finishes since the '70'S and know every aspect of painting, from prep to finish. I was trained union and non-union I think decorative painters should have a certain set of skill woodgraining, marbling, gold leafing, plastering, stenciling, and then have additional levels of expertise, Murals etc.
